Minister Balaam Barugahara Applauds Cartoonist Spire, Asks the Youth to Fight Corruption

The Minister of Gender, Balaam Barugahara has called upon young people to raise their voices in the fight against corruption. The events promoter turned Minister in a press conference applauded Makerere University professor Dr Jim Spire Ssentongo.

Jimmy Ssentongo Spire has championed several social media campaigns exposing corruption in the different government agencies. Among these was the famous Parliament exhibition which resulted in a couple of ramifications that are still being addressed up to now.

Balaam Barugahara said that he doesn’t see the likes of Dr Spire as an enemy but rather as someone wishing his country the best. The Minister went ahead to say that more people like Dr. Spire should come out with evidence in the fight against corruption.

Demanding for accountability and transparency will help in service delivery and also help in attracting more donors if there is progress. The Minister went ahead to tell the youths not to keep quiet when they something going wrong. He said that even if they arrested any of them, he would surely stand surety for them if it’s on grounds of corruption.

“I want to tell the youths all out there that it’s our role to protect and develop the country. Do not keep quiet when you see acts of corruption being undertaken. Please speak up. I want to applaud the likes of Dr Spire who has championed the fight against corruption. More people with evidence like him should come out and we join forces in fighting this vice,” said Balaam Barugahara.

This comes at a time when Lwemiyaga county MP, Hon Theodore Ssekikubo is seeking signatures from fellow MPs to censure the four MPs on the Parliamentary Commission. Besides, three MPs are also currently behind bars for partaking in acts of alleged corruption.
