It is anticipated that the three arrested MPs at Kira Police Division on Monday over corruption allegations will be charged in front of the Anti-Corruption Court.
It should be noted that on Monday evening, Yusuf Mutembuli, the vice chairperson of the Legal Committee, Cissy Namujju, the MP for Lwengo Woman, and Paul Akamba, the MP for Busiki County, were moved from the Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID) headquarters in Kibuli.
This is where these arrested MPs had spent the entire day being questioned before being moved to Kira Division Police, where they were placed under arrest. Sources in Kibuli and the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) office claim that the available evidence is adequate to bring charges against the three.
“The evidence already gathered is enough to present the Honorables (MPs) to court and we expect it to happen by Wednesday,” a source said.
During his State of the Nation Address on Thursday, President Museveni gave the people the assurance that there is evidence against corrupt government personnel, ranging from the Ministry of Finance to Parliament.
“I have been hearing that from the Ministry of Finance, they collude with the accounting officers of ministries to come to Parliament working with some people there (Parliament) to provide certain funds, provided you take a share. I didn’t believe this but now I have proof,” said Museveni on Thursday.
According to credible information, the three lawmakers all of whom are accused of corruption are anticipated to be detained in Luzira maximum security jail as Museveni presides over the national budget reading on Thursday.
Due to their prior membership in the Parliamentary Budget Committee, two of the accused MPs are wanted. It is reported that while the Petroleum Supplies Amendment Bill was being processed in November 2023, one of the MPs engaged in some unethical business with several Kenyans.
“Parliament is becoming a marketplace of deals for some MPs. There was a plot to sabotage the Petroleum Supplies Amendment Bill and there are people who positioned themselves to benefit from it at the expense of Ugandans,” said the source.

Meanwhile, while remaining a member of the Budget committee, another MP is alleged to have amassed enormous sums of money from several agencies.
The legislator in question purchased a pricey SUV and customized its license plate. The same lawmaker is alleged to have built large building projects and desired to spend USD $3 million on real estate in the United States.
